Specifically you're looking for 'super resolution'
hate that they always default this stuff to "on"
not a fan of the upscaling garbage and will disable it now that I know (thnx for the info!), but that 'stable volume' feature does look very nice
The instructions on opting out look to only be for how to disable it for future uploads to your channel, unless I'm missing something
you have to just unselect it in quality settings on every individual video you watch I think
..........................
Yeah, that's about the size of it
I mostly watch through playstation.... changing any settings is a massive pain in the neck as it is
at least re: how it's implementing
but this is till a colossally environmentally destructive tack-on that will ruin so much more, environmentally, for a device nobody wants and nobody asked for
This is a good correction.
I wonder/hope if it will at all remember our preferences like captions
oh man thank you for the signal-boost! my 2008 fandom music videos deserve to be viewed in their original blurry low quality ONLY
(in all seriousness though i am fully sick of AI bullshit being allowed by default)
You sure it's actually youtuibe compressing videos down and then scaling them back up with AI? I have seen a lot of comments that it's the uploaders posting copyrighted stuff and just distorting the video to not get found.
That's also why so many movie snippets sometimes and 1 or 2 additional random music tracks ontop, often so loud that you can barely understand what's said in the video.
Tillie: I'm not sure anyone has said anything about either of those things. I've heard nothing about the videos being extra compressed, only upscale, and no one's mentioned piracy.
Google really must be trying to use their datacenters for something, even if it's at a loss for them, since like... nvidia offered this as a driver-level, client-side enhancement option a couple of years now so if people wanted the upscaling that badly, they could set it up and it not cost youtube (or any other site) a dime.
I'm sure this will look good on their next quarterly report or whatever
Oh this is new. Thanks for sharing! Done and unchecked those boxes!
so far the stable volume is garbage
it makes the person i was listening to sound weirdly autotuned
acc to comments the upscaling is garbage anyway and blurs faces so lmao okay good job taking something that wasn't broken and "fixing" it I guess google, you piece of shit, what's the matter? low on money after funding the stupid ballroom?
Someone suggested on a tech youtube, that they needed to find use for their data centers
Platinum: Yes, not as part of the current google post, but there were discussions on youtube that youtube doesn't do compress down but it's the people uploading stuff.
If it was google, then ALL videos would be rather bad quality, and that's definitely not true, because there's several channels who have high quality video with no such recolors and distortions.

So it's probably the people who don't want to get a strike for illegal content by youtube.
I'd really like to see some upscaled videos. There are some oldies that are really bad quality, they would totally benefit!
This is about upscaling of videos that are in low resolution already. If the videos are in high resolution to begin with, they will obviously be less affected.
Absolutely no one is talking about compression.
