talking about some cool game design, from Klang 2
latest #17
it's a rhythm game where the stages are fights
and the rhythm inputs are attacks and dodges
how the game is structured is that there's an overarching story, and between the story battles you unlock a bunch of extra songs to play
then you do those for a while until you get enough doohickeys to unlock the next boss
but the interesting thing is that, because the game is about fights, each stage has to have an enemy for you to be fighting
in the tutorial, you fight, like, a training robot
then the first section of songs you unlock are all fighting the training robot
then you fight an actual guy, then you unlock a bunch of songs where you fight that guy
so each set of songs is against the same enemy as the previous boss battle
and what's interesting is
the characters have styles
like the training robot is a head and two floating hands
so you can predict where notes are gonna come up by tracking where the hands are going
then later you fight Ghost, and he teleports around the screen rapidly, which means that the fights in that section have a lot of rapid alternating notes on opposite sides of the screen
so when you see who you're up against on a song, it actually tells you some subtle things about the incoming beatmap
