[Octoberwatch 2025] it's time, again, to list all the things I watched this october
(it's a project I do now, for those new to my plurk)
Apartment 143 (2012)
Through interviews, motion cameras, and extended filming, a crew of ghost hunters trace the strange happenings in the house of a widowed husband and his two children.
It's got lofty goals as a ghost movie, but it falls short in terms of acting, effects, and the general speed of the plot. All in all, an average horror movie to watch, with one really shitty jumpscare at the end.
Nyaight of the Living Cat (2025)
In a world seemingly like ours that's already OBSESSED with cats, a virus breaks out that turns people into cats. Now, the survivors must find their way in a world overrun with adorable kitties that can turn you into one of them with a single touch.
Extremely silly, EXTREMELY obsessed with cats. If you love cats, this is something for you.
Caveat (2021)
An amnesiac man is offered a job by a friend - to watch his mentally unwell daughter at their abandoned home on an isolated island. With one major caveat: he must be locked into a harness chained to the basement.
Chilling and quiet. Does a whole lot with very little. Definitely worth a watch if you love suspense.

Final Destination (2000)
Receiving a vision of doom, Alex Browning manages to avert the deaths of his friends. But Death has it out for them now, and how do you fight death itself?
More extremely 2000s horror movies!! this was great and it only gets better from here (mostly)
Final Destination 2 (2003)
Receiving a vision of doom, Kimberly Corman saves her friends and others from a traffic disaster. Now, they're racing against the clock to find a way to cheat death before it gets to them.
Building on the first movie beautifully. One of the rare times the series gets a "happy" ending.

Final Destination 3 (2006)
Wendy Christensen receives a premonition of disaster at the amusement park and narrowly saves some of her friends. Now, she must use her pictures to piece together who is next on death's hit list.
the deaths are gorier! the stakes are higher! Everything is a little less possible than it already was! It's fun.
The Final Destination (4) (2009)
Nick O'Bannon receives a premonition at the speedway and manages to get several people out before disaster strikes. Now, he must continue to do so, while Death deems anything that gets in its way collateral so long as he is one of them.
this is one of the less good ones. I don't have a whole lot to say that someone couldn't say a lot more efficiently than I.
Man, remember this era of really In-your-face 3D
Final Destination 5 (2011)
When Sam Lawton saves a group of people from a bridge collapse via a premonition, he discovers that Death is out to correct their "mistake". But is he willing to take a life in exchange for his own?
Stronger than the last movie. Really solid cast and an exciting twist at the end.
Final Destination Bloodlines (2025)
College student Stefani Reyes starts having visions - of her grandmother as a young woman, saving a party from certain destruction. And it turns out her grandmother knows why: she stopped Death's plan, but Death has been working hard to catch up on all those altered fates. And it's coming for their families, too.
having watched these all together, it's like no time has passed at all. the same stakes, the same destruction, another good cast of characters. And also a loving sendoff to Tony Todd.
Saint Maude (2019)
A newly-converted private caregiver becomes obsessed with saving her patient's soul, no matter the cost.
gripping. Horrifying. not quite queer horror, but close. fucked me up a bit.
The Babadook (2014)
A widowed single mother must confront of the monster that's begun to stalk her home, and target her child.
Another movie that's good, and everyone's said it's good, but I never got around to. Well, it's good. Very important in the grand scheme of horror movies and their evolution out of the 2000s.
There's a Zombie Outside (2024)
a struggling gay actor starts to receive visions and fears that the monster of a movie he once made has manifested in the real world.
It's a monster movie, it's a thriller, it's a meta commentary on the narrow avenues of success offered gay actors, and the danger of being tied to one success. It's...... it's kind of confusing. I don't know about it.
Together (2025)
After a hike gone wrong leaves them trapped in a mysterious cave for a night, estranged couple Millie and Tim start to experience a new bond with each other. One that draws them closer than every before, or even possible, whether they want it or not.
Horrifying and lovely!! The main actors being a real life couple adds wonderfully to the chemistry.
ABSOLUTELY CHOCK FULL OF BODY HORROR, so if that isn't your jam, do be careful.
V/H/S Halloween (2025)
The found footage anthology series returns! This time with a focus specifically around Halloween holiday.
With a wraparound segment between shorts about a company testing a soda made from poltergeists.
A good assortment of some of the weirdest and darkest shorts in the franchise.
Uzumaki (2000)
A live action adaptation of the strange goings-ons in the town of Kurouzu-cho. And the girl and boy who try to escape from the rapidly growing horrors.
There's an almost.... cozy sort of atmosphere here. The scares are pretty retro, and the budget is simply not there to give the heights of Junji Ito's scares. (But then again, when is it ever good enough?)
Haunted Hotel (2025)
Katherine Freeling, along with her children Ben and Esther, move into the Undervale Hotel that was owned by her deceased brother, Nathan. Who is actually still around as an undead ghost, just like everyone else who died on the hotel grounds. Shenanigans ensue.
Goofy and silly and a little spooky, but then it hits you with some Real moments. Don't cancel it too soon, Netflix.
Sleep (2023)
Newlywed and pregnant Soo-jin must find a way to stop her husband Hyeon-soo's nightmarish sleepwalking before he harms himself, or someone else.
A slowburn of paranoia, real fears, and questions that you'll have straight to the end.
The Summer Hikaru Died (2025)
Hikaru died, but the only one who knows is Yoshiki. But with "Hikaru" up and around, happy and joyful and spending time with him.... is that really so bad?
Heartbreaking and poignant. A conversation on what it means to be "different" in a rural village and how those horrors aren't always that bad actually.
Rabid (1979)
Following a near-fatal motorcycle accident, and some experimental plastic surgery, a woman develops a taste for human blood, and an illness that creates an epidemic of rabid, blood-thirsty zombies.
it's a David Cronenberg movie.
ahahha.... a dangerous epidemic sweeping a city that the doctors try to control and the civilians like to ignore. Imagine.
Much much lighter than Cronenberg's other works, but still with a bit of his usual flavor of body horror weirdness.
Rabid (2019)
A young fashion designer suffers a disfiguring accident. Desperate, she volunteers for an experimental stem cell treatment that grants her her life back... along with a thirst for blood, and a rabies-like side effect.
It's a remake! Cronenberg wasn't involved.
Faster than the original. I think this one stands up on its own. I haven't seen much of the Soska sisters' other works.
I Saw the TV Glow (2024)
Two troubled high schoolers who share a connection through their favourite tv show start to question their reality and identities as the crushing weight of the world threatens to suffocate them.
Beautiful, nightmarish. A whirlwind of pressure that asks if you want to be this kind of animal anymore, Crazy good.
Blood Quantum (2019)
A zombie outbreak brings the realization that the indigenous residents of a reserve are immune to its effects. Now, they must survive the walking dead, and the survivors coming to them for aid.
Grisly, somewhat low budget. But a good movie nonetheless. Lot of heart (and other guts).
Phil Tippett's Mad God (2021 rewatch)
Made over the course of thirty years, an unnamed person ventures deep into the bowels of a nightmarish hellscape wracked with war and a new horror around every corner. But it goes even deeper.
I watched it again! does it make any more sense? No! Does that matter? also no.
Weapons (2025)
One night, all but one of a teacher's students disappear into the night with no warning, and no sign of where they went. the people left behind are forced to wonder what happened to them, and what will happen to them.
Great movie, but ironically it's probably an easier watch than his last movie, Barbarian. Great time, good scares.
Night of the Zoopocalypse (2025)
A young timberwolf and a mountain lion must work together when a "Gummy" zombie outbreak turns their zoo into absolute chaos.
based on an idea by Clive Barker
Equally goofy and spooky. A good time for anyone, including people who aren't too big on horror.
Sinners (2025)
In the 1930s, two criminal brothers return home to Mississippi to start their own business, that is befallen by a vampiric threat on its opening night.
A movie about music, about history and culture, about the nature of people to tear down others to build themselves up. About colonialism and racism. About horror but also about love. Possibly Coogler's best movie.
Deeply horny

Over the Garden Wall (2014)
Two brothers get lost in the Unknown, and must venture through the strange, dream-like land to return home.
