Kotetsu no Daibōken was an OVA that I recall renting from way back when. I remembered very little of it outside the soundtrack being oddly catchy, so I went to revisit it.

A few takeaways:

⑴ The MC looks like Ranma-chan.

⑵ Holy fuck, I did not remember it being this ecchi. Today's purity culture would have a field day on its content. (Hell, a lot of it made me uncomfortable, and I'm able to put up with a lot.)

⑶ The story is generic, but I'm still interested in seeing where the story goes. (I blame both the onmyōji stuff.) However, it only had the two OVAs, and the manga only has a partial translation, so that's unlikely.

⑷ The OP and ED are both really good. I wish I could find the OST, just to listen to them.

Kite was something that I knew of from Anime Abandon way back when, but then I learned last year that it was actually influential. "Hey, I don't mind edgy schlock; lemme see what I think of it."

Consensus: Eh. Boilerplate story; cool action. I can see why it was so special—enough to get a live-action remake—and I'd watch it again for the vibes, but it didn't exactly set my world on fire.

Kite Liberator, however, was complete dogshit. It tried to do something new, but ended up tripping over its own feet (and down the stairs ) by being unnecessarily convoluted. Absolutely would not revisit for the sake of enjoyment—maybe to dissect why it's so bad.

Frieren continues to be motherfucking based.
