i'm not sure what's going on with domino but he spent 24 hours throwing up. when i checked his abdomen this morning he yowled, puked, and curled up. his bladder felt very firm and full and did for like most of the night, then 20 minutes before the vet opened he peed for like a solid minute. no more abdominal tenderness. no more yowling.
we just got back from the vet bc they couldn't see us until 230 - they said they couldn't feel a urinary or GI blockage. he feels fine. he now seems fine. so they're treating for nausea and suspecting he may have just eaten something he wasn't supposed to.
but he's still not himself. he's very quiet, still disinterested in food, still kind of finding a place to hide. and i' mjust like buddy of ALL THE TIMES to get sick why right before i can afford to deal with this
the vet didn't seem very worried because he seems fine now and it could've been a blockage he passed.
but if you cxould keep him in your thoughts thatd be great
it sounds like he had a blockage he managed to pass. The quiet, disinterested behavior may be a result of that. Even though the pain's gone now, that shit's scary, especially for a creature who doesn't have enough awareness to know what's going on
he's in my thoughts and so are you
it just came on so suddenly
like when i went to bed he was fine and being his normal pain in the ass self and when i woke up he was Not Okay
def keep on an eye on him, make sure wherever he's trying to hide he has access to water. If he's not in pain anymore and he's not throwing up, I wouldn't be too worried. He's just scared after all that.
good grief that's horrible
it sounds like a crystal or stone that caused a blockage he managed to pass, yeah
it wouldn't hurt to put him on kidney/urinary health food to help prevent them in future. sometimes adequate hydration is not enough for boys.
yeah i think i'm going to have to switch things over because this was terrifying
yeah that sounds exactly like noctis every time he fuckin clogs his ass. barf barf barf whine lethargy- sudden poo and then after a few hours hes ok again
first few times it happened bc he was a kitten & his pipes were too small, he needed surgery. now hes full grown usually he can sort out his own butthole. but we've had a few similar scares and vet visits
ive had good luck with the Hills Sensitive stomach and skin food. but if its just a single incident, dont worry about changing up TOO much. but watch his hydration for sure
boy cats are so notorious for not drinking enough, especially. dumbasses
Hes very weird about drinking
When you can afford to think about it, liquid treats help. And urinary health foods are probably a good idea. It's always going to a kitty enemy there.
Like every time I go into the bathroom he’ll follow me and get in the tub bc he wants to drink directly from the tap
Maybe I need to invest in a fountain again just to make sure that’s not the only time hes drinking
if you give him wet food you might try adding water to it, i do that with gracie, tried it with dry food too but she’d just drink the water then leave the food
if he prefers running water a fountain sounds like the way to go
claire also loves drinking directly from the tap when i use a sink, but she doesn't like RUNNING water, just... dripping water... cats are weirdos, if he likes a fountain yeah get a fountain.
Yeah idk he likes the tap but not drinking once the water hits the tub
I also just called my parents who have agreed to take him with them for halcon.
gracie likes to drink from the tap too, got ger fountain but she’s not as interested in it, she’d rather me make her a mug of ice water everyday
yeah lol i gave my fountain away bc they ignored it. and i have had clients and friends whose cats will only drink from human glasses, not bowls.
they're such finicky creatures, just go with whatever will get him to drink more. and the urinary diet foods limit compounds that form the crystals and stones.
noct also loves drinking from the tap (jules does too hes just too fat/disabled to jump to the sink, he sits in the bathtub ad will drink drips from my hand when im in the shower, so getting my fountain up and running again has been good for the boys
whats also good: tuna liquid (watered down, if you happen to like tuna), or mixing wet food with additional water, theyll lap that shit up every time
they really love the friskies cuts in gravy, so they get that instead of treats when i need them to hydrate
i had a charge who needed his kitty plumbing changed and even after was having issues and he liked fancy feast "broth"
which is basically..... cat soup lol
has he been tested for kidney
fountains are also good if you do notice him actively going for the tap
I took a nap and he’s still not eating g
sometimes they need an extra day bc they feel like shit even after passing the stuff, but if he continues to be sick or gets more lethargic, consult the vet again. but in my experience noct's needed an extra day to get over it before he eats
I’m mostly just worried because he was in the exact same place for four hours
Like I had a nap and he hadn’t moved an inch
He has no interest in food or water
They didn’t give me any pain meds for him just something for nausea
I can’t afford anything right now most of my savings were burnt keeping my head above water in the last year
This is just a fucking nightmare and it came on so suddenly
if you need help for the poor lil guy please reach out
l;ike i saw some of his more regular behaviors, he's not laying down immediately anymore
gracie didn't move around much or want to eat/drink after her vet visits, so he probably just wasn't feeling safe
He’s just gagging when he smells food right now
He’s peeing but I’m not sure if he’s pooped
Completely unlike himself in every way and I’m so scared
your vet may have payment plan options which may or may not be an option but i think it would be worth calling and saying what symptoms he's exhibiting
varies vet to vet but often where i work if we saw an animal super recently we'd likely then provide meds without another consult/consult fee
particularly if they suspect that he's in discomfort
My vet doesn’t have one I would need to get one of those care credit cards
We were in there yesterday and they couldn’t identify what’s wrong. They gave me anti nausea meds and said to call if anything changes in the next 24/48 hours
He still won’t eat or drink and he’s just sitting in one place and won’t move for hours. He perked up briefly and then he’s doing this again
definitely worth calling because the more symptoms you can identify the better to diagnose him
it's okay to be honest about what your financial limits are, it is extremely common with how things are rn and people who work at vets know that because the pay sucks
He’s not presenting anything new he’s just hasn’t improved
I had the conversation with them and the vet said he was comfortable just trying him on the antinausea meds and subcutaneous fluids so we did that and he hasn’t gotten worse but hasn’t improved
i think it's worth noting that to them, even if all they can tell you is that it's normal and to give it time
Update o called this morning and they said just to watch but he’s now started drooling excessively
I’m calling them again to try to get back in
I cannot afford this at all I couldn’t afford the last visit
I'm really really sorry bb
I'm so so sorry this is happening
update the drooling is intermittent. we've got an appointment in seven hours. he's stable - uncomfortable but stable. he is getting up to walk around and he's just picking places to lay down he feels secure.
i'm now a little worried that it's the food
do you think he'd eat some chicken and rice?
drooling can be an allergic reaction and also a response to stress
updating this one too - he's not eating anything and is actively leaning away from any food offer. he's currently at the vet's awaiting x-rays and bloodwork to figure out what's happening. theyre going to give him something for pain and an appetite stimulant
i don't know if he's having an allergic response, if he ate something bad, if this is because of a blockage - it came on so suddenly and without warning
and its just i keep going back trying to identify the signs but there were none. he was being his usual self. he was climbing all over me and shoving his face in my face demanding attention.
and then in the span of the 5 hours i slept he went from bullying his way into my lap to throwing up.
