Like, yeah, STD had problems. The first season was a mess, they took some big swings and missed those, but when it found its footing it was fine.
It'll never be in my top 5, mind you, but it's not exactly at in the bottom two.
(Also, TNG, DS9, and VOY only lasted seven seasons each, let's stop pretending that it got cut short because it was bad or anything like that.)
Like, the first season got a lot of hate, and some of it was deserved, but it's not Enterprise. And it wasn't exactly treated like the 'garbage joke' of the franchise the way TAS was for ages before people actually started watching it instead of letting other fans tell them what to think about it.
Enterprise will always be the bottom of my list. I haven't actually watched Discovery but I find it immediately more interesting-sounding than Enterprise EVER was to me.
Enterprise only ever briefly caught my attention when Brent Spiner was in a few episodes
(I do also think that VOY gets way more hate than it deserves)
(except for the salamander episode. That one deserves it.)
there's a video that occasionally crosses my Youtube that's like "Leonard Nimoy describes everything wrong with Star Trek Discovery" and apart from the small fact that Nimoy had already passed before Discovery ever even aired, the thumbnail is a black and white image of an interview he must have given sometime in the early 60s so like
no that's not what he's doing.
I've never clicked on it but it's such obvious BS I don't know how anyone would fall for it
Enterprise is at my bottom. If anyone's talking about 'the most hated' series, I think I'd glance at its direction first.
Voyager's big problem was that their direction was a little wonky.
You know what also had wonky direction and some big swings in quality?
season 2. banger-ass episodes in there, like holy shit
but it also has the omega glory
yeah, i'd definitely put enterprise at the bottom. voyager has a wide delta (pun not intended) but it has some really good ones
i have an affection for enterprise, but i'd think it's the worst
TOS only had two seasons. Everyone seems to forget that.
there is cheek being shown
Was it three? I know it's less than pretty much any other show in the franchise (unless you count like, the animated series or something.)
yeah, I just checked it's 3
Yeah, it was 3, but the third season had a dramatically reduced budget, so I've heard some fans pretend it doesn't exist.
Especially since it gave us episodes like Turnabout Intruder, Spock's Brain, and space hippies
okay but the space hippies were funny
i cannot defend spock's brain
It made me mad in a "are some of these moral decisions making me want to rage quit"
And not in cases where you understand the moral conflict like Twuvix, where one man was existing at the expense of two, and two men came back to life at the expense of one
There are times in trek i just think people are wrong and hate a character foe it and enterprise had a few of those while having bad plots and thin characterization
And lets face it, you are already giving more legitimate thought to Discovery than most of those articles because a lot of the hate for Discovery is uh... racism
yeah Dear Doctor still makes me mad. I hate how dogmatic the Prime Directive became, but this is a PD episode before the PD even exists. and it can't decide how evolution works.
I mean, not that Trek has ever really understood evolution beyond the Pokemon model (see: the space lizards) but within the episode itself its portrayal of the Valakians and the Menk's intended paths are inconsistent.
