HI I'm Jaina, #old years of age and living in the NYC metro area. I'm riiiight on the state line so you're not allowed to make fun of New Jersey around me, that's my little brother yo.
I'm allowed to do it though.
I work in retail trade media, the only interesting part about that is I get to travel for a work a little and I write about FOOD a bunch and sometimes I get candy & snack samples before they hit the market
In a past lifetime I was a professional anime journalist
I live alone, am a loving auntie to my brother's kids and am in constant competition to be Favorite Aunt (I'm winning too)
Like most of us I'm a nerd, hobbies include video games (my taste is either Great or Absolutely Terrible), trying to be a foodie, travel when I can afford it
I'm a distance runner doing marathon #6 in January and sometimes wordvomit about running stuff, I am never offended if you mute that shit on sight because it's not that interesting but sometimes a bitch has got to ramble because the truth is most endurance runners are nervy like anxious cats
I used to be a big comics nerd and still dabble. Superman was an early blorbo for tween Jai so as you can imagine I'm quite enjoying the resurgence of love following the new movie
I respect people's right to enjoy things but I'm a Man of Steel hater, if Snyder's Superman has no more haters I'm dead etc
AMA or whatevs, if I don't have an interesting answer I'll invent entertaining bullshit
ok what counts as "absolutely terrible" taste for video games. (i too love a game that's absolutely terrible LOL)
also my favorite Assassin's Creed game is the one with unquestionably the worst actual gameplay
in general I really enjoy games that are deeply flawed but at least attempting to do something interesting
testimonial: one time I was with Jaina and she fought off an entire army of NYC rats and pigeons coming to steal my sammich
i used to line up at midnight to get the newest one o lord
Final Fantasy 8 is also my favorite FF so like, there's a trend here
I STILL LOVE KINGDOM HEARTS EVEN THOUGH I TELL PEOPLE TO STAY AWAY UNLESS THEY'RE REALLY INTO ANIME BULLSHIT. I have literally RPed Roxas at every reasonably distinct canon point it's possible to play. He's probably retired but I'd still drag him out for memes or whatever.
I dipped out of asscreed after they kind of stopped being about the Assassins but I still have a lot of fondness for the series
Omg who from AC did you play... did we cross paths a lifetime ago...
basically I will rhapsodize at length about why I enjoy the stupid crap I enjoy, but I'll also provide all the warnings why you should maybe not try it lol
testimonial: one time Jaina spooked the staff at a Wawa into cleaning the bathroom for us
victoryfanfare: Maria Thorpe in a bunch of games and Altaïr in a couple! You can tell he was a strong blorbo because I still have muscle memory for typing the ï on the keypad. Elise once too. I think you played Ezio in Paradisa a looooong time ago, right? Unless I'm hallucinating and have placed you in that memory for some reason.
I also have multiple asscreed journals that I made for one-off memes or jokes or because the usernames amused me.
SPOOKING THE WAWA STAFF INTO CLEANING THE BATHROOM IS ACTUALLY A TRUE STORY
yes that one is true lmao
it was less cleaning and more providing some fucking toilet paper
She got all New Yawk on them
I was like
Listen. We had to pee and I didn't wanna drip dry it.
effervescible: You're correct, that was my Ezio! I've played him from a later canon point since on another journal too a couple years ago ahah. Also I love everyone but Eliseeeeeeeee
That might have been the first game I played Maria? It was one of the earliest for sure. Definitely where I met Fudgey via asscreeds.
ELISE DE LA SERRE WAS EVERYTHING I EVEN HAVE A FUNKO POP OF HER
and I don't own a lot of funko pops!
It's so exciting watching so many cool people from my plurk converge
(said GG as though everyone she knows can only meet via her)
theggnator: honestly I'm surprised by the people we both know in recent years, because for a long time it felt like you were off in another RP corner, like we only had ex-SP friends in common but no one newer
ikr, there's also some people I am BAFFLED I didn't meet until relatively recently. Both of us being as old as we are
Assassin's Creed is a mess of a game series but holy shit I love playing Black Flag to this day.
Oh man Black Flag had a good story but the gameplay was also fiendishly addicting. I've played it multiple times and 100%ed the map at least one of those times.
Am I good at ship combat? Not really, but damn it I do my best.
It's just so satisfying to explode a smaller ship with a fully kitted out set of cannons
I can't believe you hate Man of Steel
exar: if that movie were a person I'd drag it into a dark alley and beat it with a bag of nickels
I actually don't think it's a badly done movie, I just think it doesn't Get Superman or Get The Kents at all
Not every adaptation has to be the same, and I think it's fine to make some aspects very different (see: the bioparents in Supes 25), but at a certain point it just doesn't feel like the character/property at its core anymore
I (AM SORRY BUT I) don't really care much for Superman (nothing wrong with him, he's just give or take for me) but I adore the cinematography in MoS
but I appreciate you for wanting to inflict violence on it on actual narrative merit : ( b
IT'S OKAY NOT EVERYTHING CAN BE FOR EVERYONE! And yeah I have no beef with the cinematography, it's purely a character/narrative thing haha. I have said before that if the movie were about an OC named Very Strong Guyman, I'd probably quite enjoy it!
yeah gotta agree they're lovely movies as far as how they're shot and framed
but boy as a story for characters i thought i knew i checked out hard enough i can barely remember any of them... except that in one of them superman died and that batman looked like he was from lego batman
it's honestly a bummer that I fundamentally dislike Snyder's take, because say what you will about Frank Miller, and there is a lot to say, basing a movie loosely on The Dark Knight Returns is a great idea and I should have loved it
There is basically nothing in Man of Steel I like or can't think of other Superman media that has done it way better honestly. I wish I could like anything about it but unfortunately it basically tries to apply a Batman model to an entirely different character who is neither solitary nor shies away from people nor revels in secrecy.
victoryfanfare: YEAH EXACTLY that's basically it, the whole time I got the vibe that Snyder was like, "I love Superman! except I'd like it if this were different, and also this, and also that...."
It sucks to me from minute 1, where Jor-El isn't just a scientist, he's some crazy-ass action hero.
Yeah like the whole thing feels like it has contempt for everything Superman is
I'll be honest I have entirely blocked out the beginning of MoS
Like they're embarrassed by him or his earnesty or what he stands for or his outfit. Don't they say "Superman" like once in the whole fucking movie and it's this kind of derisive joke. Idk. I haven't rewatched in a decade because it makes me seethe.
I loved the new movie not just because it was a good movie, but because it gave me everything I personally wanted and didn't get from MoS.
They made MoS because they needed to release a new movie to keep some elements of his licensing active. It was bullshit.
tbh I really want to watch the 2025 one but I just haven't gotten to it yet because The Wounds Run Deep
I also don't recall Henry Cavill and Amy Adams having any chemistry so speak of. Conversely, I would not have been terribly surprised if Rachel and David started fucking onscreen. It was crackling.
THAT'S VALID. Movie trauma, I get it.
They didn't. Also Amy Adams is a talented actress but I've never never never never managed to be "sold" on when they plays like... tough, bossy characters? I don't know.
>> Hallo, I am Lin, I play Spike in Pixie Led and I am looking forward to interacting with you ICly ^^
I actually thought Supes25 was going to be the half-assed movie they only made to keep the film rights going or whatever and because of that, did not watch a single trailer. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE WHEN IT RULED.
Her Lois felt kind of tantrumy and the whole "HIS MOM'S NAME IS MARTHA TOO" thing in BvsS was the dumbest thing I've ever seen
I can't get over the Martha thing
BvS gave us a banger musical score sequence for Wonder Woman's arrival, I'll give it that
lmaooo when I still had any hope for movie WW
some people nitpicked the new movie for riffing a little too much on John Williams' original score but I'm like. okay why tf wouldn't you. It's iconic for a reason.
having just seen the movie, I think the use of John Williams' score at points was well done.
I think it's nice when they do little nods to Superman's publication history! The good can persist.
MARTHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
I thought it was lovely, paid tribute to the past but was used in its own way that fit this movie. Don't get me started on how we hear the full riff at the beginning and then not after his emotional arc starts until he has Found Himself. Cry.
she's been spending too much time around me, clearly
the only thing i cared about in the snyderverse was batfleck 😔
