bloomburrow rp planning rambling - first of all, i think that if i go ahead, it will be a game with a set ending time
latest #20
i don't think i'd want to run a forever game, and having 1 month for first arrivals, 10 based on each of the major animals, and then 1 for the ending
also, having a through-line of solving why this is happening and solving the issue, making it slice of life with a mix of adventure, makes sense to me?
likely with an exploration system, with major and minor ones, major ones leading to plot information and discussion with mod/s about what's found?

the game wouldn't be a sandbox, it'd have a plotline but allow for player involvement and choice about the direction. think a little like a wrpg.
i really think, as well, dwrp could learn from ttrpgs when it comes to the social contract and setting expectations with games
and of course, having to make rulings on things like summons for powered people, and having the backbone to say 'no' to some things for plot and setting feelings
even if, for plot reasons, some of these rules might be broken by npc plot
im thinking ac will be a write up something ur character did this month, links optional but appreciated

I am watching with great interest.
hehe yup. i also think being open with design stuff is a good thing in this setting, instead of lording over players as a mod.
The only thing I'd say is that while having a game with a set ending sounds pretty fantastic, actually, especially in terms of planning, just be... kinda loose with the actual time planning on your end
cause you never really end up knowing what sort of speed your players are gonna end up adopting in the game
Like, it can still be limited time, and have set phases, just need to be a little bit flexible on if each phase ends up being a month, or half a month or two months or whatever based on what kind of players you end up it.
yup, thats the plan, vague plans depending on size, but having phases set up and having it like not an eternal game. tbh im terrified of accidentally stumbling into a forever game.
since i do have the major plot beats as ideas (each of them sort of tied to one of the mtg colors thematically) its gonna be like. limited time before opening up as a sandbox depending on ending. and NOT murdergame pace.
because i know, as a mod even if i get helpers (which i will put feelers out for when i have concrete plans, and they can help design stuff too ofc) i cant keep up with that pace
murdergame pace is brutal and terrifying
I am somewhat awed and afraid of anyone who can manage it
same. i mean, i run a text based dnd game on mondays, which means i need to be 'on' for those hours, but like... murdergame pace is being on for all that time.
