I wish my mom would realize that, hey its okay for people to have other beliefs

What the hell.

oh yeah she made me watch it in theaters because she found it so emotional and moving
I love my mom but uh
she's.... how do I say this....
Thumping the bible too hard?
(she just asked me if I saw it because she was trying to find something to watch and I reminded her of this and then she went on a spiel, she does love her spiels)
this is the person who freaked out on me over my squishable Baphomet
Oh yeah. Yikes.
yeah
I do understand why she doesn't but it's really not fair and it's borne of a bad translation anyway
yeah its just... frustrating. i'm an adult, yes I do live here but i should be allowed to enjoy my interests and not be subject to your beliefs just cause... you believe them.
exactly
I like witchy and dark stuff but I don't practice stuff so like, what's the big deal (there isn't one)
You like the aesthetic.
pretty much...
And there's nothing wrong with that
For people like your mom, it's really hard to accept that you don't believe what she does because in her mind, the only right way to believe is how she believes. And the cost of not doing so is eternal damnation. So obviously she's gonna like pester you to death about it because she's doing it out of love, not realizing that she's utterly destroying the
The relationship between the two of you or even you wanting to be there with her at all. and it's really hard to get through to those types of people because they really don't see what's wrong what they're doing
And it's, unfortunately where you have to draw really hard boundaries of this is not something I will discuss with you, because you cannot be rational about it. You have to take it personally. You have to try to bludgeon me into agreeing with you when we don't have to and you can't accept that.
oooh yeah nail on the head right there - I need to try and talk to her about shit but she's so difficult and sometimes its like talking to a wall cause she's so stuck in her own mind about shit that a lot of the time I let shit go because it is EXHAUSTING
why are you soooooo frustratinggggg LMAO
that's not to say we never agree or get along but if I have to hear "that's the thing about you young people" one more time I may absolutely commit a murder. on myself, probably.

I also saw it in theaters just to say I did. I went with a date who was likewise curious and we were like "well that was sure a thing that we watched!" I think we warned my mom off it.
yeah it's stupid hard to get some parents to treat you like an adult

also oh my God I just realized I either went to that movie with my current husband or else went alone. I would have sworn I went with this guy I dated two years before the movie came out. So maybe I went alone and Ben just laughed at me after, bc I know he wouldn't have gone to it.

he's smart enough not to go to the jesus torture porn
Jesus torture porn LMAO
he’s real for that
I don’t remember how old I was when this movie came out except I was in high school and they had papers at the box office warning people about how graphic it was
I was maybe 16? So not too terribly young but like. I didn’t like violent movies and at the time not into horror or blood and gore at all and she knew that but was like “it wasn’t that bad!” Because she’d seen it already
my sister was about 16 too, I was 20ish?
