i. love this movie so much. it's so wild and fun
it has just enough humour to balance out how dark the subject is
Right? It was a perfect balance and the povs switching to put things together gradually was great
ok I need to watch this tonight
I was yelling at the end holy shittt
I heard it was better before the explanation happens but I still want to watch
the POV switching was so well done. and yes to yelling at the ending
speaksincolor: i'm not sure i entirely agree with that? because the explanation, for me at least, doesn't explain everything! there's still a lot of fun mystery to poke at and speculate about. though i guess it depends on what they mean by "better"
for me i think the plot is strongest before the explanation, but the acting is strongest after
wherethefigslie: I agree - I enjoyed the way it was explained, with all the pieces coming together and then the last act was just WILD
and yeah agreed - the acting goes off the walls
oh wow hearing that Pedro Pascal was almost in this... I love Pedro but Brolin was on TOP FORM
Julia was also really good, damn girl
I need her to be in more movies k thanks
and i need to see amy madigan in EVERYTHING now??
i mean i've seen her in a bunch of stuff but like more spooky shit
YES get her in everything plz and thank you
YEAH I loved it. It was so wild
I haven't seen it (know spoilers), but the Naruto run takes me out everytime
we spoiler friendly here?
You can talk spoilers it’s fine
yep! I have no plans watching it because I am a weenie when it comes to horror films XDb
the naruto run is amazing
like i said, to me it has just the right amount of levity given that it's about missing and enslaved kids
what did you guys think about the ending? it's been divisive, i know
i personally don't see how this could have had a "happy" ending, and like. idk i think the kids being at least physically okay, after all that, is probably the best that could happen
yeah I actually would have been upset if they all went back to "normal"
from what I saw whatever magic was used had adverse effects
i saw a really great theory, that i love, that the girl narrating at the start and end was one of the children in the basement
which is why the movie ended on the line "some of them are even talking again"
so how old do we think Gladys was?
cause I'm thinking 200+ plus
so she's kinda a Mother Gothel type, stealing youth, maybe?
well she called TB "consumption" but after the TB bacterium was discovered and named you see TB being the term so she was likely an adult by the time that happened. So I think she was an elder adult who was dying of something and using magic to extend her life. not really youth because I think Alex's parents were her primary targets and wasn't enough for
some reason. so she switched tack (maybe just... she's too old for that to work) and got exposed as a result of her being desperate
I also don't think she's really related to Alex or his mom
agreed that she's not actually related to alex's family, she just sort of wormed her way in playing the pathetic old woman card. alex's dad was very confused as to how they were related
I think she lurks around some families claiming to be a distant relative and picks them off over time
there's two times the subject of parasites comes up, which makes me think she is one on these families
yes! yes yes. the parasite mentions had me

hmmm
yeah she's unrelated and preying on them
also the two mentions are tapeworms and brain controlling fungus
