Does one become a "fan" to become a member?

yup I noticed a comment about that somewhere. they say to feel free to use the band profile function to create a group

they might be better off adding a group functionality, but figure they're probably panicking at this point with the flood of new users

so figure I'd leave that suggestion for a bit
