what I think...hmmmm.... well, I can tell you this:
I had to memorize a poem for school twice in my life...
both times it was that snowy woods one.
I never quite understood the point of forcing children to memorize poems

well...it's the only one I know all the way thru, to this day. I guess the point is so's you remember it.
Brooke, I think it's a vain attempt to expose our children to poetry. Akin to memorizing dates in history.

I didn't get excited about history until I took a college class and finally learned how to look beneath the surface to to assimilate all...
of course, I was too young to understand the *point* of the poem.

Yeah, and I think that's what just having kids memorize fails to do... get inside the vision the poet's painting'
