would like to know if anyone here knows how one can identify someone who stole pics from a blog and used them for something really bad

took photos from a former co-workers blog. cropped them to show certain people, hide others
then emailed to company directors with really really damaging statements
person even copies portions of the blog onto the email and made it appear that the stuff from the blog were written by the sender

we're currently tracing the IP address of the pc it was sent from but this could lead to nothign if it was sent from an internet cafe
it can be done. i don't know how though. somebody was able to close down chikatime.com
