Everyone wants to check your creditworthiness now, because it gives them extra excuses to fuck you over.
Henry got mad of me coz he thinks I gave the guy too much info. I told him I stopped when they asked me of my SS#.
We thought it was a scam. I googled it and AT&T really asks for SS#. So creepy.
I only gave them my name and tel #
If they’re running credit, they use your SSN. It’s very common now.
Auto insurers run it to see if they think you’ll be able to pay your rates.
Employers run it to see if they think you’ll steal from them.
thanks for confirming that. It makes me feel less stupid now.
I've never had that asked before so I'm paranoid.

David.
You
*should* be paranoid. IMO they should NEVER ask you for that ID. It’s like handing them a blank identity theft check
that's why I said no after all we talked about.
interject that auto insurance uses your credit to see if you are a bad driver ... theory is people with bad credit have more accidents
if there's any validation at all in that theory or if it's just an excuse to charge more
WA State passed a law to prevent it from being done since it was used to discriminate and charge more to people with poor credit
assumes that's exactly what it's for. I really can't imagine the two things could really be correlated.
SS#s are pretty standard now. Which is why it's so easy now fo someone to steal your #. It's not online or anything I worry about - it's
when I give out that kind of info in PERSON. THAT is harder to track down. One waitress using your card is hard to find - a hacker group
stealing 400 numbers is findable. Same with SS#s. I think they should come up with some kind of in-between number or diff um...
different method? of checkin these things? And dude - why do you need my SS# to like sell me a prepaid phone? YOU DON'T.
(my kid works for Radio Shack now - I can't believe the crap he has to do and things he tells me - his store is in an area where well...
a lot of customers do not *have* SS#s. But they get in trouble for not getting more people to buy subsc. phones instead of payasugo. pfft.
there are people without SS#s?
Well, yeah. Illegals mostly.
They come from the city to work at the track up here.
but Dev gets in trouble (his manager may get fired) because their track record for moving ppl from prepaid to plan phones sucks. It's NOT
going to happen. It's like putting a vespa store in harlem.
there's reality and then there's corporate mentality.
corporate math = government math. And now they want tto hire more people, too - when they don' have enough to pay the employees they have or
enough hours to give them. THey're gunna hire everyone without a key to open the store except Devin - who can't open cuz he has school! This
it's a big headache. I miss the good ol' days.
Thanks
hubby refuses to give his out to anybody, unless absolutely necessary. i.e. Verizon wanted to use it as an ID# for him and he flat out said
NO, same with our local utilities company. The only ppl that should need your SSN should need it for tax purposes
it wasn't meant to be used as an identification #, it is supposed to be for taxes, thus the name Social Security number
30 years ago it was my student ID in school.
most companies are pulling your credit for everything hence the request...whether they need or should is another matter
