"Happiness and self-realization eluded Karl Rabeder as he indulged in a supremely materialistic lifestyle..."
"...Rabeder, now 47 and divorced, lives in a two-room apartment in Innsbruck, and gets by on just $1,260
a month. “The worst that can happen to me is that I have to take a small job to get by,” "
''My idea is to have nothing left. Absolutely nothing. Money is counterproductive -- it prevents happiness.''
if i could make just enough to get by and help my kids get an education and be self supporting, i'd be happy. i don't really ever want to
get a job where i am not very aware of all my spending, where it goes and why. I think this stretch of time being here
and unemployed has really helped me realize that i never want more money than i can use
and by 'use' i don't mean buying fancy things. i mean food and utilities, and money to travel and visit loved ones and new places
i think the only thing i'd miss if i were that dude is having spare cash to see the world
haha, i'd LOVE to have spare cash just hanging around.
i don't like "just getting by". i hate when expenses come up that i have to toss onto credit cards and shuffle around funds to make it work
and the ability to buy things in cash instead of credit all the time...that'd be amazing. want a house? BAM, cash.
hah well this dude definitely didn't sell everything and hole himself up, he runs charities and helps with business loans and whatnot
and i'm sure his shit's all paid off
i think in our own situation, needing to have money is a necessary tool to learn to manage it
if you just HAD cash all the time it would lose its value altogether
most people would become lazy gluttons indulging in every little whim and eventually turn into blobs
i'd actually love to have the liberty of not needing to work. that'd be amazing.
well.. 'work' being subjective
i love work when it's work i love doing
be formally employed and chained to an office.
ah yes. that's totally different.
if i had everything paid off and my children taken care for, i'd want nothing more than to 'work' for myself or just.. frig, plant trees
i get satisfaction from my work, but i could be doing so many other things if i simply had the time AND money.
i'd love to couchsurf my face off.
lol yeah that too
well if we get everything paid off and stop 'expanding' things, figure out some kind of form of income that doesn't chain you to a desk
then that's totally possible
and i'm pretty sure we're headed in that direction anyway
it's not as if we're always buying new furniture, cars, or glorifying our lifestyle
it'd be great if this oxide thing worked out and just ran itself. i'll probably be a cranky old man by the time that happens though
although...i do find ways to going through life...quickly..
doesn't have to be that way if you focus all of your energy into it
if you actually did NOTHING but that
no school or work or tv/internet/social things
it's possible, but your life would suck for a bit
also means no school for a bit
and you'd need determination and to completelyabolish procrastination and any other kind of lazy habit
lol well of course.
i dunno i can't say i see school doing much for you now. you don't spent that much time on it at home and only 2 nights a week
for something you say you'll have to take over again later anyway?
basically going "full speed" would really only work with you working. i have to have my income right now to sustain the lack of constant
work we're receiving with oxide.
well yeah obviously
lol, i just talk shit with school.
i made a 78 when i thought i was going to fail hard.
oh! and i saw what i missed. holy fucking stupid. ONE FRIGGIN SQUIGGLY LINE i forgot in my formula. (forgot to integrate my solutions, on my
well i feel like saying just focus on one thing at a time. either do really well in school and study more than just the night before
or quit school and go full on with oxide
separable functions, if you know your DE)
and BOO to hiding squiggly lines
school nowadays is mostly for the paper so you can work for someone else. is it worth the risk to stop what im doing to give oxide a 100%
um yeah, considering you already HAVE a job that pays more than most people with degrees./
not to mention if we move, I'll be working and you'll probably start another degree anyway
im just worried that my skills here wont really be transferrable without a degree.
as far as landing a job up there if i need one
well how much longer do you have in school anyway? didn't you already get some kind of certificate?
I don't even know what you're working towards or how much longer it will take
and i do agree you need some kind of degree if we were to move, or if you were to even ever look for a new job here
lol, i have a degree. associates in science. it's kind of a "general" degree.
alright then why are you still in school?
and all these math classes still apply to any engineering degree i'll be going into
because i want the 4 year degree
how many more maths until you start the engineering part?
and is the engineering part in another school?
i can actually start some engineering courses now if they were available this semester. i've got this class (differential equations) and
calculus 3 left for my maths. at least at trident. there are a couple more in the 3rd and 4th year classes.
and if i stayed on the track im on now i'd do about 4 engineering classes then go to citadel for everything else
and how long would you be in citadel after you were finished with trident? 2 years?
realistically probably 3-5
i cant handle a full courseload while working
and if you went to school in canada instead and did it full time and let me work?
i feel like it would take less time and be just.. cheaper in general
perhaps. really depends on what's going on down here.
i couldn't just get up and leave while trying to start up a business down here.
well no, but you could finish school here up to a point that would let you transfer
and then work full time on the business
like.. line up your credits and choose a specific school/program to aim for once the business can stand on its own
well there's also this thing about credits expiring after 7 years.. I think that applies only to transfers though. If you're continuously
going somewhere I think they ignore that.
