Yes, I hear you. There's memorializing and then there's sensationalizing... it does no justice to the memory.
None at all. I find it tasteless, actually.
such a crazy day.
That... that's compassion fail.
worked as education and govt reporter for local paper when it happened...had to go out to schools to get reactions
from students, faculty members, ROTC kids
Seriously. I don't know about the rest of you, but when it happened it hit me hard. I can't even imagine what its like for those actually
ashtond what a horrbile assignment. I bet that stays with you always.
That just pisses me the fuck off.
It hit me SO hard, and I didn't have friends or family involved, thank heaven. Can't imagine those that did.
one teacher used it as an opportunity for me to do a career day type of lecture to her class; day in life of a journalist n how
we covered an event so shocking
I know! How can they be so damn tasteless. I mean, I'd expect it of FOX...
Yeah, they did the same thing this morning.
one student, girl got up and walked out of class crying....her dad was in NY..on biz at WTC..she didn't know if he was alive
I just don't understand what they - or anyone else - gets out of seeing that more than once. Wasn't once enough?
I still almost physically HURT when I see that footage.
talk about feel like shit...he did turn out allright..but man...that sucked
Don't need to see it anymore.
the conservatives want to keep the fear of terrorism in the forefront....its a campaign tactic
it does..that and post katrina coverage right when i got back from evac
weird..gustav made landfall on katrina's anniversary..n now Ike is this close to 9-11 anniversary...
ashtond and THAT is what I hate about politics.
ashtond the post-Katrina coverage was indeed awful, also. Despair and this awful sense of hopelessness. I can't understand why anyone
would ever think that exploiting that kind of disaster is a good political tactic? Despicable.
Hey, keep us afraid and depressed and we can war monger all we want!
it was different for me after katrina..because i was writing for a paper in the "affected area"
really kinda felt like i was doin god's work at times then just because we were getting all the info out to people that they needed
but at same time dealing with storms effects on me...little damage at my house...but mom and sisters 20 miles east had 8 feet of water
i went into moms to take pics 4 insurance purposes...
piano overturned...her freezer had floated up n was wedged on the counter...
a flock of birds flew out of my old bedroom out through a hole in the roof..
shit..i'm rambling...and anxietous...sorry
ashtond No worries at all. Can't imagine that you'll ever forget that, no matter what.
there's been some pretty inspiring coverage over here in the UK. Human stories about survivors and those who didn't. I've found it v moving
they did a show over here on the anniversary of 7/7 about the Heroes of Edgware Road. That had me in tears. The bravery stands out so
starkly against the horror of those 2 days.
my 23 year old reminded me tonight that she appreciated it & at 16 she did not understand it as it happened. Now looking back it helped her.
September 11 2001 was her 16th birthday. We were three miles away from the pentagon. It is real to us every day but this was helpful to some
well, let's be realistic - networks are doing it for ratings more than anything. That said, I think some people *want* to remember it as it
happened, as the human tragedy, not the politicized event that politicians have made it - I know people who lost loved ones who feel it's
important to watch and remember and not let all the things done "in the name" of the event overshadow it.
AND the politicizing of it makes me sick.
