to get into social network consulting. There are no college courses for this, any suggestions on how to get started?

Mashable and Rotor.Blog are pretty much up to date (on social networks). So subscribing there might be a good idea.

do NOT ask your instructors for advice ;-) Start blogging, if you aren't, and get articles published on best practices 4 bizes on socnets

blogging currently on everything Plurk but I don't believe that is the way to go to get in this field. Might need to broaden horizons a bit

You could solely on socnets, depends on what you want to do. Like only focus on cos using Facebook.

If you do a good job, that helps you establish your expertise in that area, and can lead to work

Like you could blog from the customers' POV on socnets, talk about which apps/methods work, which ones dont
