You see, there is much to that story left untold. Why is your foot asleep and does this happen often?

Does it happen often for the same reason or for other reasons?

MFV raised some very relevant points. please give us more details. ;-)
MFV was

it your position? Were you wearing something constricting? Or was it circulatory? Did you take any 'medicine'? (thinking)

I have this issue a lot when I'm sleeping, I find a really comfy position and then my arm or leg or hand or foot falls asleep.
MFV is

Well I guess I could be more careful, but it's always so comfy until it starts to tingle, and after a bit of tingling it's almost painful.

Anesthesia is complete loss of sensation, parathesia is partial loss of sensation

In a skin burn, say a deeper one, a lot of sense receptors are burned out of the skin, but there is usually some border or clear margin
MFV
where there is a change in continuity from burned skin to unburned skin. This is the area that's painful (thinking)
MFV

So, I don't suggest burning them out. Numb the whole thing or don't numb it at all. That'll be $120 *likes playing Doktor* (griltongue)
