canon vs. fanon ships, basically 'how authors fail to sell us'
it's mostly focusing on het, since you don't want to seem like a slash obsessed fanbrat
current major focus is hermione/ron vs hermione/harry and janeway/chakotay vs 7/chakotay (or 7/janeway)
I'm a weird person and shipped like... Q/Janeway due to that one episode, completely missing like the point of the end of the episode. Yes.
yeah the issue with j/c was there was a *lot* of bait and switch, fans were really told pretty explicitly by the text:
'yeah they'd bang each other in a heartbeat were it not for duty' and so the fans hung on, waiting for the end of duty
and then he ran off with the hot robot
Hah, unfortunately I haven't seen much of the series but I think I recall that
yeah, it basically was ~4 seasons of setting up a looot of j/c and then c/7 popped up in s6-7 and then they ended as canon
Also, in Enterprise, the series everyone hates whatev I was more into Archer/T'Pol and then came Tucker ;_;
I'm almost never into canon pairings. Unless it's like shoujo and then I HAVE to like the pairing because that's what the plot revolves
that's not to say I force myself to like it. I just pick series where I DO like the pairing
right. I think a good example of canon pairs are earlier Mulder/Scully
I've heard good things about John/Aryen on Farscape as well
Ohhhh,the j/c, 7/c bait and switch. I remember that.
Maaan that's like, one of my earliest fandoms too.
we have a few more 'case studies' but i'm working on penning the Ron/Hermione portion
That pairing always felt forced to me
that's probably the point you're making but... yeah
they felt more like siblings which was so very odd to me
Same here. Well, up until the 6th book, when Rowling seemed to realize her characters had gotten away from her and yanked them forcefully
back on to *her* story rails, thereby derailing them all.
And then she got to call Harry/Hermione shippers basically akin to a trick of Voldie's in the 7th book! 8D
/okay, so maybe I'm still a little bitter about that one
Yeaaah ... we're going more into the canon bait and switch in the j/c part, for me ron/hermione fell prey to the long hiatus between gof
and ootp, because basically pre-ootp pretty much everyone and their dog (yes you sirius) seemed like a better match
and better boyfriend material, ron was a twat who was jealous over money, friends, power, fame, etc, etc, etc
really there wasn't a single thing he wasn't a twat over, so as far as someone to pair probably one of the stronger ladychars ever?
yeah, Ron was fucking fail
As far as I see it, he was still pretty fail even into the epilogue. He never *grew up* and is still cheating on tests
And other such assorted thigns he used to do when he was 14. And Hermione, yeah, she was one of the strongest female personalities in
popular children's/young adult lit... until Rowling kind of murdered that later on...
GIRLS ARE ONLY GOOD FOR BAYBEEEEES
YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH BABIES EVERYWHEEEEEEEEEERE
