movements by definition can only be issue-specific
grand narratives = revolutions
maybe start small? define core values and then go after "doable" concerns?
I want to meet up on this.
I made some informal rounds among friends on RH and on how this should be passed this year. Maybe we can build on that.
the reproductive justice movement in the philippines has been over a decade in the making
last year was the closest the rh bill ever got to being passed
last year was the 1st time ever rh became a household issue. i think it has a good chance of passing in the 15th congress
I don't play dice, Sparks
sjsanjuan: dude, anong laban mo sa isang tawag ng cardinal sa malacanang?
one call was all it took to derail the magna carta - after it passed bicam. one fucking call
Kaya nga,
caffeinesparks. That means our hope is not in gov't, but should be in the people.
if i had the private line of the president, hell ill be calling her everyday too. question is, will my voice weigh more than a cardinal's?
caffeinesparks: not your voice, perhaps. But if enough voices say the same thing, it might drown out even the posturing of Cardinals.
one voice against something so... monolithic as the Church (to give an example) might not budge a president
but... a whole movement. In this day and age of alternative media and flash mobs... call me an idealist or a dreamer...
... (still, after everything?) but it. just. might. have. a. chance
which is why im optimistic for the 15th congress...because since july 08 rh has become mainstream
I'm not

They'll drag their feet, then wait til the last minute to drop RH like a hot camote.
well, there's the 16th congress
the money isn't going to run out for this lobby. population politics is too important for countries like australia
Yun nga. But I think we should allow the people a more direct way of being involved.
referendum? ang mahal naman yata
papayagin muna ang powers that be para mag-referendum
As you said, money won't stop flowing for these kinds of advocacies.
And people will actually get involved here, so no room for maneuvering and backroom arm-twisting.
sige - ilagay sa advocacy report - sinuhulan sina so and so para mag-referendum
Bakit kailangang suhulan? It's the people who will push for it. We need to involve the people, so they will have a stake on it. So they will
fight for it if people up there short-circuit their process.
a luxury people dont have
ang hirap na nga humagilap ng manonood ng sessions na may rh sa agenda eh
ah well. you're a dreamer - dream on
Yes, I am. And I would like to believe that people, if properly motivated, will take action. Trust in their innate capability.
And that's why we'll bring the issue down to their communities, where they live. They don't need to go in Congress.
what makes you think the issue isn't already there?
if you give condoms et al for free - people living in squatter areas wont refuse them in the name of god
ask carlos celdran. he's been doing it for years
Same way I think why politicos who claim to have the support of so-so are talking bullcrap. Grassroots organizing!
