The chocolate teapot is a rhetorical device based on the hypothesis that, if one were to fill a chocolate vessel with a hot beverage...

...it would melt. Chocolate is therefore ill suited for such a purpose, and any attempt to use such a vessel would be doomed to failure.

but of course. It's one of my favourite expressions.

cogitated on this, and realises now that chocolate teapots would be fine in America, where the tea is often iced.
