if we're living on our own can we put down independent on fafsa or can you not do that until youre 24?

you're considered dependent until age 24 unless you meet at least one of a list of specific criteria, OR you can try to get your school's

financial aid person to override that, but you have to prove you are completely financially independent in that case

i pretty much am already, i pay my own rent and buy my own food, and i work for myself etc, but i still live here with my mom

you would need to be moved out first, and you should speak to your school's financial aid officer to find out what the other qualifications

Yeah, the only way I got a grant was cause I got knocked up and had a kid xD But talk to your FA Officer

in my experience, though, even if you qualify as independent & FAFSA says your EFC is zero, that just means lots of loans.

if you can find other scholarships/grants to apply for, go for it, every bit helps... depending on your cultural background, community
