My district is still not very connected so my students - and colleagues - benefit from my experiences translated into their lives.
It's an indirect experience for them, but still a powerful one.
i think it has impacted my univ. class bcuz i am training tchrs to use these tools
In early 90s I was teaching in a school not connected. (duh!) I was, through Carroll College. I would go to Lynx and telnet and find stuff
that supported my classroom. FTP images, and designed an ever changing daily bulletin board outside my room based on what was going on. We
were part of the Kobe earthquake (usgs data, pictures, stories posted), JASON project (back in the day!) & students & teachers LOVED it.
Everyone felt very connected, and for the year I went home each night, got new content, printed, posted each day. It was an amazing way to
share in a non-sharing era. I was non-renewed that spring.

(So were the 5 ppl who had my job before me, and the folks who had it after me
Each of us thought it would be different, but it was a sacrificial position the union let go to keep costs down. Great first job, eh?
My kids blog and comment, writing for authentic and varied audiences. Writing is at an all-time high, both in quantity and quality, and is
being done voluntarily outside of school hours. My class "time" has no boundaries; my students interact with this text late at night and on
weekends. (I can't keep up with the "approval queu"! Seriously!)
We are connecting with other music students via skype and blogs. My students now have a broader understanding of what being a music stu. is
