oh wow, today's the summer solstice there?

yeah.. it just officially started.

ah, so the start of summer is marked by the solstice?

sort of.. it's the time when we have the longest days.. we have sunrise at 530am and sunset around 930pm

it's when the sun is almost as parralel (?) to Earth... Or something like that

nope, it's when our side of the earth is closest to the sun.. so we get longer days and shorter nights

haha! yeah, basta something to do with the earth's tilting of the axis..
