where I come from in Canada, to graduate from high school, you need to take provincially-set exams.

those are in English, math, social studies, and, I think, at least one science for a basic high school degree.

if you take other subjects at the "30" level, like French, etc., they often also have one.

for an advanced high school diploma, you needed at least two sciences with provincial exams in addition to the ones above.

ooo. They've diluted the requirements since I last looked. You can do the basic one with just English and Social now with the tests.

how lame! And they introduced a "Certificate of High School Achievement" in which you don't need any of the last year of academic courses.

you can get away with the penultimate year + vocational/knowledge courses.
