heard back from the mechanic, and there's nothing "wrong" other than carbon build-up that got the EGR valve stuck open.

mechanic said the only way to really fix this is to replace the car.

had my EGR and spider injector replaced in my old blazer but it is very pricey

the EGR vavle itself was replaced not that long ago - by this same mechanic. really hope this doesn't repeat itself soon :/
