if I need to virtualize a PC (XP), so that it can run on my Mac, is it best to use VMWare (Win version) for that?

doesn't use Vanderpool unless it's required in a datacentre where resources are limited. FTR vmware is good

uses synergy... there's nothing like having 2 real machines running at once.

I need to convert my work PC into a virtual one, so that I can take it onto my Mac and run it there ;-)

ahhh ic ! It's going to be tricky I'm afraid... as a virtual machine has it's own BIOS and hence would need a compatible kernel.

I can easily virtualize a linux machine since the kernel is generic. Don't think I could do a windows one though :|

The VMWare Converter is supposed to do the trick..

shaf - It's pretty easy. VMWare provide a converter program. I have my wife's laptop running as a VM in my own laptop

Windows uses the VMWare drivers. The only hassle is Windows Genuine Disadvantage locking

VMWare converter works very well

But VMWare Fusion is a little more sluggish and has less useful features than Parallels
yojibee asks

Parallels don't have a converter do they?

their Transporter can take the whole Win and move it into Parallels - OS, settings, files, the whole shebang (never tried it though)

Great, thank you! I though it was only for virtual machines, but I see now that it is also for physical ones (s_dance)

Parallels Transporter works nicely. If you have 10.5.3 you need the 5604 update: tinyurl.com/65zveq
