… Novenas come from the 9-day period b/t Ascension & Pentecost (the tenth day after Ascension).

in the Roman Rite, it was for the longest time uncommon to have vigil Masses every Sunday

but interestingly, Pentecost had a Vigil Mass, which drew largely from the Holy Saturday liturgy

so you would end the novena on the Vigil of Pentecost
