AoC consists of two service types: advice of charge charging (AoCC) and advice of charge information (AoCI).

AoCC allows the MS to modify related charging data fields, while AoCI does not.

To exercise handset-based prepaid service, the MS must support AoCC. Older MSs that only support AoCI do not work.

The supplementary AoCC service is activated for every prepaid customer in the HLR, which will be used in call setup and tariff switching.
