I don’t get how people can just go around smoking, getting drunk and doing drugs all the time. Don’t they ever think about the consequences?

I think it is because it helps them to escape, perhaps they have already weighed the consequences?

In my suburb, almost everyone drinks/smokes/drugs, because they have nothing else to do, and because they are not happy with their lives.

I wish they wouldn't though! It's a really awful thing to grow up with...
