consequential morality is a big departure from deontological morality, which look to classify the actions themselves

I think generally it might be wise to say that people shouldn't lie because it will tend to cause pain and suffering

but that conclusion follows from a desire to minimize pain and suffering, which is open to the realm of empiricism
