working on my resume, trying to keep it to two pages.

germaine says

makes sense
germaine thinks
that's the easiest way to do it
devBear has

been trying to fit resume into one page. it's a challenge

always struggles to keep it at 2 pages.
germaine says
that used to be a "rule"
JeffKawa says
forget resume's use linkedin
hacool says
another rule I've heard is 1 page per 5 years of experience.
germaine thinks
THAT's ALOT!! I worked as an employment coordinator at Cisco & we wouldn't even want to look at that...
Myriam ★彡 thinks
should try in only one page, no one has time to read two pages :-(
nightsky thinks
JeffKawa is right.
whurley says
I would try to keep it to a page tonychall
whurley says
try having two versions, one 1 pg on longer
whurley says
remember, the point of the resume is to get them to pick up the phone and call you...nothing else imho
tonychall says
When I use to lecture to College students, I used to tell them if you are fresh out of school, you only get 1 page
germaine says
I agree with whurley
tonychall says
Once you have over 10 years of expereince, you can have 2 pages, if you needmore than that, limit to bullet points, discuss in interview
juliegomoll says
1 page limit made sense when people only had a few jobs their whole career. No more. I do think you should keep it to 2.
juliegomoll says
1 page per 5 years is outrageous. For me, if it's 3 pages, you better be a rock star. 4 or more and I don't bother reading.
Devlyn says
Yes 2 pgs ok with more experience. Think why you are writing a resume? Not for your ego but to show how you fit the job hit key points early
juliegomoll says
plus, too many pages implies you don't know how to express yourself efficiently
juliegomoll says
And either leave out (or get real/creative) with "objective". *Everyone* wants a challenging position with a growth-oriented company. Yawn.
18percentgrey feels
These are all good points thusfar. :-)
tonychall says
it's finished. 2 Pages with enough white space to be easily read and without cluter but enough info to justify 2 pages
armand wishes
you good luck
18percentgrey says
Tony, did you make sure all the type is all designered and such?
TJCS63 says
use a many pages a you need. I figure about 1/3 to 1/2 page per position that tech that "i worked at Macdonald".
TJCS63 says
ooppps if the position is more technical than "I worked at Burgger King"... Need to show the scope of your experiance and what you did
mopedronin
thot resumes were supposed to be a page, no more. of course, that was about 8 years ago.
TJCS63 says
1 Page right out of school. My last resume was 3 full pages, got the Job Nice Raise over what I was makeing and a good relocation package
germaine says
recruiters want to skim not read... that's what interviews are for
devBear says
i've got 10 years of experience, still ideally think resumes should be 1 page, 2 pages max if you have a lot of positions
martinbogo
Example of one of my resumes : (senior, exec experience) docs.google.com/Doc?doci...
TJCS63 says
I have done hiring and I passed over the 1 pager's for all but low level or entry level job's. Check out where you are applying and try to
TJCS63 says
fit you resume in.
mopedronin asks
what if you have had the same job for 30 years? or several jobs that dont need explination?
mopedronin
for instance translator. you certainly dont need to know all the projects i have worked on.
devBear

tjcs63 that's great advice. at my company many people screen, and each resume is reviewed extremely quickly. 1 page even for experienced
Luka25 says
a 2 page resume is usually more than a hiring mgr wants to read...
Rebecca says
I usually have to try to make my resume fill 1 page! (s_LOL)
eskimo_sparky says
the point of your resume is twofold: opening a door and then a talking point. Be relevant & don't solely rely on your resume to open door.
eskimo_sparky says
I am a director of a recruitment company btw
mopedronin feels
better he is still in line with current thoughts on resumes.
germaine says
yup... you are
mopedronin
phews. That's nice. In Japan, people have to HAND WRITE resumes out everytime.
germaine thinks
that's ca-ra-zy!
mopedronin
nods, yes it is. but that is how things are done. japan is slow at change. very slooooooow.
Moggs
OH when you do that can you share? I hate doing resumes these days - interviews or 'chats', yes... resumes... *shudders*
Moggs
Hand write? Hand write?! Geez.
mopedronin asks
, share the resume? in Japan? hell no. four interviews, four hand written resumes, and photos for each one to boot.
Moggs

*thinks she is lucky most of her recent work has come via word of mouth recommendations & personal networks*. LinkedIn is my living resume.
jeremyvaught

I just send them a link, it has worked pretty well so far. I'm haven't printed a resume is quite a while: jeremyvaught.com/resume
jeremyvaught
my actual resume is a GoogleDoc btw, so I only update that
eskimo_sparky thinks
that LinkedIn should serve as the resume for a lot of people. As should their Internet footprint (site, blog, etc etc).
jeremyvaught says
ninbroken52 by all means, it works pretty well if I do say so myself
eskimo_sparky says
jeremyvaught even though I'm based in Sydney (Australia) one of my clients is based in the same building as you
jeremyvaught says
eskimo_sparky are they in my living room or my kitchen? :-) (I'm not in the office in SF, but I have been there) I forget who else is there
blackfeathers

i bet this thread is longer than 2 pages now. lol
skapur says
What is so magical about two pages? 2 pages may be fine if you are applying to flip burgers but if have done more, do not hide it.
eskimo_sparky says
jeremyvaught lol you hadn't noticed them hiding in your fridge?! (s_hungry) 3jam (s_dance)
jeremyvaught says
2 pages are so magic (woot)
jeremyvaught says
eskimo_sparky haha, I'll have to warn my flatmates. hmmm 3jam, never heard of them, I'll have to look them up!
