My supervisor has asked me to come back on full-time to develop a web-based data entry system for her. (see comments!)

What I want to do is tell her that I'll agree if she'll put me on salary and use a goal-based rather than hour-based measurement system.

In other words, instead of 40 hours a week, I'll have a set number of goals to accomplish.

Do you think that's reasonable, or should I look elsewhere? I'm not willing to go full-time with her if I'm counting hours.

may not understand your field enough. but as a writer - hours are always better. things take longer than u think. always.

you should work on retainer and bill hourly against that retainer. You should also tie in the milestones.

This is based on years of experience. "Are you
*sure*
that took you 20 hours?" "Actually it took 25, but I'm only allowed to bill for 20."

I've thought about that,

, but I can't really get away with it under this system. It's salary or wages.

it sounds reasonable to me, for sure. as long as you both work on the goals and the amount achieved at those points
