reading Self Determination Theory.. FUN STUFF!
latest #15
well, in short its about realizing that the product based (more empirical based) designs for modifying behavior may be slightly limited,
and that its important to remember some of the teachings of past schools of psychology, and that self determination is effected by 3 things
well motivation really is effected by 3 things
autonomy, competence, and relatedness
1. that they feel as though the actions they take are internaly motivated
2. that they get relative feedback and structure, but not control
3. that they feel that the person working with them genuinely cares, is not just after a particular outcome, and understands how
the person they are helping sees the problem
basically its an argument that the SDT model is quite universal, at least when applied to motivation
no matter how outcome based the therapy
so even if the person you are helping comes to you because they want off drugs, but they are being forced to.. you can use
the things noted above and a few others that are to long to mention , to effectively motivate that person to quit
not to say it will always work as its based on them
Ooh, psychology stuff. That actually sounds pretty interesting.
