Me, it was 1993, and I used VAX terminals to connect to IRC, later telnet and gopher.
1993 for me too. GEnie bbs, where I "met" Corgi and other significant people in my later life.
hmm I think I searched out houses in 98 maybe even in 95; but that was on my mom's computer. My own was purchased in Jan 99, so that's when.
I met my husband back then too.
First known instance of reaching out via a computer was actually 1985, but in a prehistoric way.
1987 I got on Prodigy and really started connecting with people.
And I STILL miss playing Madmaze on there, demmit.
I got an Apple II+ as a graduation gift, but I resisted the web for a while after it became widespread.
I'm pretty sure it was '93 for me as well.
Before some people I know were born. The world must seem so different to them....
Oh! Prodigy! I was on that. Dunno the time frame. 1990, maybe?
95, I think? I didn't get online until I had access in the high school computer lab.
1990 for me, scorching my way across the aethersphere with my top-notch 1200 baud modem and 10mb harddrive.
When the internet became available (up until then, it was Fidonet fiddling), it was $2.00 an hour.
I recall feeling so cool being a Forum Leader on CompuServe, and getting a Free Flag. Thus waiving the $15 an hour charges!
I KNOW! It was really an elite service in it's day. I was honored to get the gig and be able to roam the fora all I wanted.
BBS on a dumb terminal in 1990. Played a game called Empires. All the kids were busy attacking each other and having wars. I made peace
treaties with everyone and just built my empire. I won in a runaway!
1996 for me. I was 11. My dad brought home our first computer and had AOL on dialup.
