anyway, wondercards are packets of data you download that give you access to the Pokémon. If the Pokémon itself has an event attached to it

Wondercards just mark that you got a think, you can get either an item or a mon or sometimes both on the card, after you retrieve the item

Yeah, the main reason to keep the cards is so you can transfer it to another game.

Not all of them can, but a lot of wondercards can be transfered from DS to DS using the wireless connection. (not Wi Fi)

So say you have a friend that missed the event, you can give them the wondercard stored on your game
