definitely not overrated. I think our generation has been so saturated w/ similar stories that's its easy to miss their roots. Brilliant!

Citizen Kane. I think it still holds up, too. It's a good story.

I really don't think it's the greatest film or anywhere close. It's a very good film, but I don't think it's anything particularly special.

Hmm...I'd be hard-pressed to name a "great" film, but there are a great many I've enjoyed more than CK.

I don't find CK to have much replay value.

I also have a hard time regarding Casablanca as a great romance.

I enjoyed it, but more as a darkly humorous drama than as a romance.

Similarly, I found 4 Weddings and Funeral immensely more enjoyable when I viewed it as a drama than when I believed the comedy hype.

Princess Bride, Brazil, Shawshank Redemption, Stalag 17...

Greatness depends entirely on the metric.

I'd be more inclined to sort movies in heaps rather than stacks or queues, and I'd have a hard time picking a single greatest.

I wasn't asking what is the greatest film of all time. I wanted to know if there are films that you consider great -- forgetting genre, etc.

I consider all the films you listed great. Haven't seen Shawshank but mean to. But I don't enjoy Ben Hur as I do the others.
