I am still processing it, but it's difficult to see it as really useful for characterization b/c of how abstract it is
It's Mello writing something L told him that was related to *him* from Naomi, possibly only via report
oh yes, and of course Naomi is observing B, mimicking L, who he has never met.
I'm not even sure how the Change the WorLd book will work with Mello as a narrator, it'll probably be just as bad
the narration in DN:AN DEFINES unreliable
so yeah re: L it's pretty useless /patpat
I don't know how new it is, I gather it's a novelization of the L movie?
man that L movie was so much crack
It totally was, but it was worth it to see L being a semi-fail babysitter
sob I still haven't watched that
I don't remember where I put it orz /stares at files that are a mess dkfjldkf
It is an amazing much watch, so delicious
I'm going to pick it and the novelization up soon I hope
DN:AN ... idk how to analyze it. Maybe over a few weeks I'll try harder but the first look was just /confuse
hahahaha yeah it's kind of
like you said it's full of THIS PERSON HEARD FROM THIS PERSON VIA THIS PERSON....
I also need to reread once I have the opportunity, I'll try to help /o/
It's amazing people can even RP as Beyond Birthday like that, but LOL he still has more characterization than Matt
Well I think you have to make an assumption on how L got the information from Naomi the most
like on a unspoiled first read, you'd think 'L got it b/c he was there, investigating with her'
but then you realize he really really wasn't
some very strange things, like Naomi's massive hate-on for 'Rue Ryuzaki' and his freakishness come through
but you'd think that's something L wouldn't want to admit about himself (as BB is imitating him)
really the POV distribution makes no sense at all
Maybe Mello got the information from Naomi instead, after briefly hearing about it from L
(and yes I mean post-mortem, I imagine she wrote a report or in a diary or w/e)
... that could be possible I suppose :|a
aaa you guys make me want to reread DN
So my first thought is: things that Near could verify that Mello says directly are probably 98%+ true
... /tries to parse this sentence
when Mello is talking 'at the reader/Near' I think we can assume that he is telling the truth
at least about things like 'Wammy's House is like this' 'the kids are like that'
at the very least I expect them to be his 99-100% accurate impressions of what is
yeah from the setup at the beginning? I'd expect most of it to be true as far as HE knew
I need to double check but there's also some ... wishywashiness of when Mello's writing
iirc he says something about being 'Mello who died like a dog' or something
which would be ... um ... interesting
b/c that implies writing post-death >_>;;
but anyway, I think he must be writing strictly from L's perspective of what he knows about the events
w/ Naomi's impressions coming through L
I'm also curious why L picked those things to tell Mello, and what that says about their relationshp
hahaha sob re: the death thing
he apparently tells Mello his (1) origin story (2) BB Case (3) Bioterror case that earns him 2 more names
idk I always interpreted it as 'right before he made that dumb suicide plan to kidnap Takada'
'so if he dies then someone finds this'
but it's up for debate :\a
oh yeah FFFF I really want to hear about the other two cases too. but it's interesting that L ended up telling him about them
That's possible, Fyre... it's also possible that L 'told' him post-mortem too
By leaving some sort of records behind
hum. I thought it was implied somewhere int he book that he met L face-to-face but
Mello says he's 'one of the few who met L as L'
(which to me meant that he's one of the few who met L and knew he was L at the time he met him)
