mandel asks

which other ways can you read it???
mene says
samclarke No offense, but calculations are read one way using PEMDAS. I've seen it no other way. Otherwise numbers would be all messed up.
mandel says
there are no brackets anywhere that is what PEMDAS rules are for, you have no excuse :-P

Exactly mene mandel -3.5 for the win.
erinmichelle says

i say negative one.
mandel says
seriously, people there is just one correct result and is -3.5, no brackets no nothing, is -3.8 in hex (s_angry)

I think someone is trolling you ;-)
mandel says
I hope is just that.... otherwise we are doomed :-(
erinmichelle says
if there ae no brackets, you go down the line, and if that is not 3/2 and is 1 plus 1 minus 7 plus 3 divided by 2, the answer IS megative 1
erinmichelle says
my bad, negative one.
erinmichelle says

times two?
mene says

Erin, you aren't following PEMDAS. Division is still first. Doesn't matter if there are no brackets. Same for polish notation.

thank you :-)

DaisyOlsen

(1+1-7+3)/2 would equal -1. What you put equals -3.5
DaisyOlsen thinks

this is why space shuttles crash.
mandel says
there are rules in maths, division and mult before add and sub, the way to read is 1+1-7 +(3/2), that's the only correct way
