Wireframe is your best friend on this hunt unless you don't like using it. In most places it'll just pop right out.

I turn wireframe on and off depending on how well I know a store and things like that.. usually I'll go in and look around with it off..

distance is really short, you're likely to be rezzing a lot more stuff, so the lag will be similar.
