That's the problem with people. Stealing's become so normalized that most people who DO stand up against it only do when it's hurting them
Then again... stealing one song can encourage someone to buy the entire album. Stealing an ebook...
I find it hard to believe that ebook piracy leads to sales
even software I can kinda buy it, b/c try-before-you-buy, but if you have a e-reader you'll just keep it like an ipod
Plus, the author sort of has a point: At least with music, you can make some money on concert sales
Authors get paid (less) for talks and appearances if they are popular enough
I do want to note that in some other countries (Germany) the prices of books are set by publishers and thus never have the potential to fall
I'm not sure *how* many other countries, but I can see how that might drive people to pirate
If every book costs like $20 (and I don't even want to think about what textbooks would cost)
US e-book prices are also set by the publisher
Maybe I got that info wrong then o_o lemme look up where I read it
.... I don't see why this article is arguing that it helps to preserve small bookstores though, isn't the issue of affordable literature
When everyone makes a living wage it doesn't matter if a book costs $6 or $14
Well, no, it still matters. Just less. But at least according to that article their book prices *aren't* higher. idk...
Also on the subject of affordable literature vs small bookstores - I think the point here is that we don't just want cheap books, we want-
-a *wide range* of books, which is where the small bookstores often come in.
I guess so... :/ What concerns me is those people that don't manage to make a living wage
