We had a border collie shetland sheepdog mix a couple of years ago. Yes, they are VERY HIGH MAINTENANCE. Lots of chew toys, play, walk/runs!

I'm puppy sitting my sister's Westie along with taking care of my niece and nephew. Phew!

Border Collie's are well know to be the smartest breed, and like smart children, they get into everything! You can make it easier by

teaching him tricks! They love to please you. Get a 50 cent clicker at the pet store, and some tiny tiny treats. Do you know how to train

with the clicker? First click- treat, click-treat till the dog knows the sound means a treat is coming. Then click-treat the dog for

looking at you. Then you catch any behavior you want him to do, like waiting to eat until you say OK. The word might be "wait" which is

also handy at the door so he doesn't dash out. Good luck! Love my BC!

bfeather: My dog is terrified of a clicker! No treat will entice him. He's a Chinese Crested and they're very timid.

AWWWW- how sad! I knew a dog who was terrified of fingernails clicking against each other. Nothing works with all dogs, just like kids!

Our pound puppy we adopted is 1/2 border collie and 1/2 golden lab. Izzie is wonderful, but busy!

bfeather: It's not a problem. His trainer from puppy class says that not all dogs respond. I just don't use it.
