I was working on mine last night. Still over 40K because I haven't emptied the trash yet.

worked on it during nellotus and got it down to 16,505 by eliminating a lot of dupe LMs and extraneous notecards

i empty my trash after each search/toss. it's annoying that the sort by drop down clears after i clear the search field

If you have folders you want to keep open after you clear the search field, highlight the folders (hold ctrl for more than one).
