my 17 year old cat has always been so independent... so why all the sudden must he meow until I let him sit in my lap while I work?

maybe its just cause your cat is old? my oldest pup is the same way recently but shes only 10 lol
he never liked to be held... loved to be petted but lately he follows me everywhere mewing till i pick him up
he is like sitting in my lap purring so much and i am not even touching him!
