planning to blow away the b0rked Win2k drive and replace with kubuntu.
Is there a way for kubuntu to "see" the ntfs drive?

Again, try Jolicloud.You can dual boot with it until you like it,and then install and use the whole drive.

Or, if you are just going to install kubuntu, use an fdisk utility to make a swap partition and a main partition for linux.

there are ways to get it to access the existing NTFS partition so that you can get the old data off (as long as the security settings were

not too tight). This is an excellent way of recovering broken machines' files. But not after you've installed Linux all over the old drive

the installer should allow you to create new partitions and resize the old windows partition automatically...

no need to create the partitions yourself...and if it doesn't give you the option you can always load up gparted in the live boot and resize
