points to the button that says popcorn on it, and has a tiny picture of popped popcorn kernels on it. "Push that button, and it auto-

matically sets the time to pop popcorn. You never noticed this before?"

goes in and looks what he's pointing at. "N-No, I never use those b-buttons since I-I don't know how th-they work."

finds more popcorn in the cupboard, takes out the burnt bag, tosses it in the garbage outside, then puts the new bag in the microwave_

pushes the popcorn button and it starts cooking the popcorn for the right amount of time. "Just push the button."

stares at it. "B-But sometimes the button d-doesn't work."

"When doesn't it work?" listens to the popcorn pop in the bag.

shrugs. "Sometimes it-it doesn't p-pop enough."

"Pop enough?" Not sure what she means by that.

frowns. "Not enough k-kernels pop."

"Oh." looks at her. "not all popcorn kernels pop."

nods. "B-But not enough p-pop though! L-Like only a q-quartre of the b-bag!"
