I think all of you are kind, thoughtful and generous during these tumultuous times. We have a great community!
There is, most definitely, a moral benchmark here, and often our self imposed political correctness amd desire to be accepted
interferes with us communicating effectively
If you are only giving 5% of your sales to this event, toward this cause, it's not that it is unappreciated or looked down upon
But the reality is that you can indefinitely, forever, reproduce an object you are selling copies of.
And in some cases, it is viewed as exploiting and leveraging a horrible tragedy and disaster in order to gain sales and income
especially if you're taking 80% when your "Manufacturing costs" were a nickel in some cases.
well, if tier weren't so damn high and so many creators paying so much to LL, they could give more. *shrug*
manufacturing cost may be low/zero, but materials and tools can be a bear (PhotoShop, etc)
and a good shopping experience takes development/tier.
branding don't come for free, either
That doesn't mean it should be okay to leverage a horrible disaster to pay your bills.
I support everyone, regardless of their contribution, and I'm not attacking, but it is worth discussing and sharing points of view.
I know people are very passionate about it. And nobodies money is better that anyone elses.
not even true charities are 100% handoff rate. There's still costs involved. Problem is, in SL, LL takes a HUGE bite of already low profits.
No but for a week and for a single item, SL'ers can afford to be, no?
If i put an item in my store (which no one ever goes too) and marked it as charity item giving 5% it could be perceived
Quick point - the designers are not paying tier for the spot the charity event is held on. The host is.
as me using a devastating tragedy too get traffic, and make short term income, on my own behalf
and I think thats where the communication crux has come in
if 5% is your margin for the period, then that's giving a lot I'd say. But, yes, I agree not as much as a 100% give.
That in effect is part of the host/organisers donation.
however, when it comes to giving, doing it through SL is VERY inefficient and ends up benefitting LL more than the charity itself.
Sadly true, crap, but still beautiful and inspiring that people are using the platform in such powerful ways
waitwaitwait... you have a store? Can I buy a sparkle pony there?
HA! I sold earings and morbid little dolls called "Deadtime Dolls" but my stoh is obsolete!
Can it be called Vintage?
pffft at least you have a store. I just tell Menubar my crazy ideas and he goes to town on 'em.
