Wasn't there a public vote? I think the problem is that the public vote tends to reveal the cliqueness of Second Life, that groups like BOSL

draw on a small pool. I'n sure if we ran a DW set of awards, the same thing would happen, & we'd find a lot of our friends nominated

Best of Second Life). They're what are seen as the best by a subset of people here. I can see clear omissions that surprise me -

You could argue that people associated with/employed by BOSL are not eligible to enter. But that would hugely complicate an open public vote
