They say it won't be hazardous to your health, unless you continue to eat those polluted vegetables for the rest of your life.

Because the gov. doesn't want to cause any panic for Japanese people or else there won't be any eatable agricultural products in Japan.

Exactly! But I think the moment they decided to broadcast this news, they showed the gov. itself was panicking.
