that we just dropped our monthly phone bill by $33. We have cells with great plans, so no point in paying for anything more than a dialtone.

You can a Virtual Private Server with dedicated IP for about $25/month

I used to think I need to run my own server, but VPS is too cheap now. If you're not on verizon you can use dyndns.com to run home server.

clumberkim Generally you pick the OS you want and they drop a default image onto the VPS. They give you root access, so you can do anything

you can put any programs on and configure however you want. It really is your own server w/o hardware. Plus they'll manage system backups
